Weekend Reading: “The Tao of Twitter” by Mark Schaefer

For the 150th episode of The Marketing Book Podcast, I interviewed Mark Schaefer, author of the revised and expanded fourth edition of The Tao of Twitter: Changing Your Life and Business One Connection At A Time.

This book was originally published in 2011 and has been updated several times. It is has been the best-selling book about Twitter, every year since 2011.

Is Twitter dead? You would think so based on all the social platform’s management miscues lately. Plus, it’s overshadowed by Facebook, not as easy to initially understand as some other social platforms, and new platforms are coming (and going) on a regular basis.

Yet, despite this, Schaefer argues that Twitter is the ultimate business networking utility and the most human-powered social network. It also has numerous business benefits, not the least of which is that Twitter may be the most powerful source of market research on the planet and an endless source of real-time customer insights accessible to businesses of any size.

The secret to Twitter success? The most successful people (and companies) on Twitter are the most human – they target the right people, provide meaningful content and authentic helpfulness.

A bit more about the book…
