The Best Marketing Conferences In 2014

Michael Brenner on Dec 10, 2013 in Marketing Strategy

Which marketing conferences are you attending this year?

Update (Jan., 2015:) Here are the top marketing conferences for 2015.

I think it’s really important to get out of the office once or twice a year and learn from other marketers. You can get a sense for the hottest trends, new ideas, a fresh perspective and of course you can make great connections with your peers that can pay dividends in so many ways.

One of my most popular posts this past year was The 20 Best Marketing Conferences of 2013. I crowd-sourced that list from my social media connections. I attended a few. Spoke at a few. But most of all, heard from dozens of people that the list was a great resource to help them plan their year.

So this year, I am giving you even more control over which should be labeled best marketing conferences in 2014. So I started with the most popular conferences from that 2013 post.

And then, thanks to Nick Kellet and, I added them to my first list where you can rank your favorite, add your own and get your own network to vote. So please vote, share and tell me which ones you are going to? And let’s meetup!

We at Useful Social Media feel that our Flagship Summit is one of the best summits for any social media/marketing professional.

Over 300 CMOs, Senior social media and marketing professionals in one place…

Are you able to add it to the list?

  • Johnson Becker

It’s true we have to move out of our office meet new people gather new marketing ideas. We cannot develop ideas if we are sitting in one room. Thanks for sharing the list. Planning to go for social media marketing world. Hope to meet some new executives and learn something from them.

    • Michael Brenner

Thank Johnson. Can’t make that one but hope we can meet up at another.

Marketo User Summit is missing from this list! Looking forward to it already!

You can add it to the list and get others to vote!

iMedia Brand Summits are perfect sessions for those directors or VP’s of digital marketing for brands. Wonderful conference, by invite only, with great, professional networking. Next one is in February in 2014 in Amelia Island. Second one is in September in Coronado Island.

Michael, it seems there an embedded lesson or warning here for marketers: Crowdsourcing is awesome until it becomes a crowd of guerrilla marketers. 🙂

Funnel had 500 attendees and has 32 votes (6% of attendees???), versus just 26 votes for CMWorld. Oh, and Funnel is one of the most recent additions to the list.

Nice list, although I’m going to discount that #1 spot for now. Glad to see you have time to post again this week!

Thanks Eric, I was shocked to see this too and you should have seen it before I turned off the “down vote” button. Just a bunch of trolls. It’s a shame but you’re right – it is a good lesson. Even here at SAP, we have community moderators for our comnmunity network. Although I’m not giving up on Listly yet. I have a few more posts I’d like to update with some reader voting.

Hmm, does Listly let you set and keep a separate “creators ranking”? /cc Nick

        • Michael Brenner

          good idea.

        • Nick Kellet (@NickKellet)

          Yes it does.

You can have a “Curated” order. Drag and drop ranking

You can also make that the default order

It’s fully transparent – that’s a big advantage of Listly – if someone is spamming a list you can see their profiles. Works better than IP based voting and letting people vote each day. Nobody can hide.

Always more to do. I can see us adding blacklisting to let moderators nullify votes from specific people or even IP addresses.

We’re excited to see MarketingSherpa’s Email Summit 2014 on the list! I noticed there’s an empty logo space next to the description. Can I send our logo along to you?

    • Michael Brenner

Yes, just send me the url and add that in here.

  • Kate Frasca

    Hi Michael,

Kate here from Incite Marketing and Communications- was disappointed to see that the Incite: Summit West didn’t make the list- we think we’re definitely worthy!

Our inaugural show was attended by the industry’s best and brightest- with an audience makeup of over 75% corporate-end users, all of whom are director-level or higher. Our speaker list included C-suiters from L’Oreal, Aflac, K-Mart/Sears, MetLife, StubHub,, BASF, and Chobani – just to name a few…

For our second show (May 2014, San Francisco), we’re expecting an even bigger crowd of senior-level, big brand executives to gather and share insights… plus no PowerPoints allowed!

Any chance you can reconsider and add us to the list?

    • Michael Brenner

Hi Kate, with this list, you can add yourself!

      • Kate Frasca

        Awesome- thanks Michael!

  • Raffaele Vincenti

A really valuable information. The concentration in the US shows a probably stronger context cohesion of the US with respect to Europe.

Michael, I would recommend the Inbound conference in Boston. It will be in September at the Boston Convention Center. Great conference – it has grown so much they had to move it out of the Hynes Convention Center – in its first 5 years it is growing faster than Dreamforce.

    • Michael Brenner

Thanks Doug, I have yet to be able to make that one – so many to chose from!

  • Jamie Newton

    Hi Michael,

I would love to see Hero Conf ( on this list for the future. All PPC content with a lot of neat extras that really make it stand apart from other conferences. This year, its being held April 28-30 in Austin, Texas.
